A big fuck you to us

The West (mainly Britain) had a role in manipulating, controlling, installing and deposing Iranian leaders at almost every juncture since the late 19th Century up until the Islamic Revolution. The recent history of Western presence in the region tells any rational observer that we’re more interested in maintaining access to oil reserves than the self-determination of sovereign nations. If you refer to history to put current Iranian relations with the West into context, we deserve a big fuck you. Every time I see that smart-casual hard-liner running his mouth at us, a part of me, the part that took the time to find out how many times we took a massive shit on Iran, can’t help but root for him. I don’t want us to win. We’ve lost a little. We lost Iran’s wealth when the Shah was overthrown. We’ve lost lives as a result of terrorism, the only channel of resistance available when governments are toppled and despots bankrolled. We’ve lost lives as a result of the wars that bankroll the military-industrial complex. But we haven’t lost shit compared to a century or so of being shat on from foreign lands, of having puppet leaders crush dissent so the elite can fill their pockets with the proceeds of ransacked national resources. We deserve the biggest fuck you in history for what we’ve been doing there for generations, but all of this is generally absent from public discourse, because we are the victors, and we write history. Our history reads ‘Muslims got angry and flew planes at us’ when it should read ‘we fucked with the Arab world, and kept fucking with them for a hundred years, and fucked with them some more, and then we bombed them for not liking it’.
