On top is google.com, and below is google.co.uk. 7 out of 10 of British popular searches relate to pop stars, reality TV stars, TV presenters or soap opera characters, as compared with only 2 out of 10 of the American searches. Brits are more concerned about shingles and tonsillitis than bronchitis and pneumonia. Americans have a morbid curiosity of the end of life on Earth while Brits hope for life on other planets. Lil Wayne lives while Jade Goody’s death was an event Brits anticipated impatiently. Americans want to know if the First Lady is pregnant whereas Brits want to know if a pop star and a TV presenter who once exposed her left boob on a children’s television show are pregnant. Americans want to know if the President is the Antichrist, Brits want to know if Lady Gaga’s got a cock. Which is more plausible? Americans are confused as to whether Pluto is a planet, which is perhaps understandable since Illinois is the only place in the world where it still is. Can we attribute ‘is santa real’ to inquisitive children with internet access?
